Session Infomation

Scope of the session: For the past PIERS (Progress in Electromagnetic Research Symposium), a sequence of sessions related to the title above were held, aiming at the progress in new directions of electromagnetic, electrodynamics (non-relativistic, relativistic, and quantum) with space charges (non- zero electric field divergence), gravito-electrodynamics, gravitation, electro-hydrodynamics (EHD), and electro-biology. Among the highlights of these activities, for instance, theory has been developed taking into account space charges in relation to Lorentz transformation, quantum effects as extended electromagnetic theory and a new EHD (Electro-hydrodynamics)/EMHD (Electromagnetohydrodynamics) as a new fluid dynamics in a continuum, based on unconventional Gravity-Electrodynamics, with novel concepts of Electric Reconnection and Critical Ionization Velocities. Those have been applied to a variety of new phenomena in space and in the laboratory as new devices such as a new kind of space-charge related electromagnetic modes, new fast-wave modes in semi-conducting and/or lossy dielectric media, dusty and unconventional plasmas, particle beams, and electro-biology. For instance, dust-related and meteorologic-electric phenomena such as planetary (Saturn’s and Jupiter’s) dust layer or ring formation, dust solar ring, terrestrial dust layer formation, terrestrial lightning, planetary (Saturn’s, Jupiter’s, and Io’s) lightning, tornadic thunderstorms, whirlwinds, cloud-to-ionosphere discharges, pre- earthquake effects, gravity waves, cosmic black-body radiation in plasma universe, non-uniform equilibrium and stability of an infinite Newtonian gravitating medium and laboratory new de- vices such as a universal electric-cusp type plasma reactor, electric undulators with free electron lasers, electric treatment for cancers and other diseases, and activation of biological matter (plants, animals, and human body). Along this line, the session is intended to update further progress in Extended Electro-magnetic Theory with space charges (nonzero electric field divergence) including electron and photon dynamics, Gravito-Electrodynamics and/or Quantum Electrodynamics without or with Gravitation, new fast-waves in semiconducting and/or lossy dielectric media with antenna application. Dusty and Dirty Plasmas and EMHD including HD, MHD, and EHD as a most general fluid dynamics in reference to space and laboratory applications and Electro-biology with particular reference to cancer treatment and other diseases as described above. Thus, the purpose of the session is to bring together those who are engaged in those areas in a broadest sense, experimentalists and theoreticians apparently in different fields and to exchange information and views and to overview the state of the art for future developments.
